For mothers, food safety and security are the integral parts in keeping their families healthy and illness-free.
This July 12, 2018, in partnership with the Municipal Nutritionist Coordinator, Ms.Rowena Garsula and the Barangay Nutrition Scholar Ms. Rosita B. Pardo celebrated Nutrition month at New Barili Daycare Center at the covered court. Ms.Rania I. Askali was chosen as the speaker to teach the mothers of the daycare students the importance of a balanced diet that includes each basic food groups as well as provide alternative food sources for protein available in the area.
Mark Kenneth Narca prepared a short 10-item quiz to test the learnings of the audience. Most of the mothers were able to score highmarks in the quiz.
Afterwards, the medical students arranged a short interactive roleplay with the mothers. The student acted as the sellers while the mother were grouped into 3 and each group was provided with a given amount of play money to purchase food items good for 3 meals thatmust include the Go, Grow, and Glow foods. It was fun seeing the mothers put their decision-making skills into action. The mothers worked together to prepare a delicious and healthy lunch that everyone was able to enjoy, especially the kids!
Armed with knowledge about the importance of a well-balanced diet rich with the essential nutrients needed for proper development, our mothers can now protect the kids of New Barili from the dangers of Malnutrition.
